I qualify as the world's best mother. What woman, two weeks from giving birth, would take her four children, alone without the aid of her husband, to a local farm to pick pumpkins? I'm clearly on my way to being voted Mother of the Year.
We drove up to Dubois Farms in Highland. The farm was exciting for the kids. Brooke kept asking me if we pet a pig. We found the corn maze first, where the boys efficiently found their way out. Then we walked to the petting zoo. Dubois Farm has several orchards and the kids were so eager to pick apples. But we have three apple trees in our yard at home, bursting with apples. We haven't been able to keep up with the volume of apples we have, so I didn't let the boys pick apples.
We found our way to the petting zoo. Along the way, was a small pond with five ducks, including a black and white duck. We enjoyed petting the kid goats. One little goat made its way to me and nuzzled up to my pregnant belly. It was sweet.
After we had our fill of petting animals, we went to the farmhouse and entered a Cider donut eating contest. The donuts were delicious and the boys had fun trying to eat quickly. I even entered the adult contest, but took time to savor my donut. I've never had a cider donut before, but enjoyed the apple-flavored treat immensely.
We finished our day selecting our pumpkins and then went home. It was a lovely afternoon.
