Walter had an infected tooth recently. After ruling out other causes, we decided something was going on his mouth and he was given antibiotics. I took him to the pediatric dentist rather than our family dentist. When the dentist examined Walter, he couldn't find evidence of an infection. He ran some x-rays to check things out and discovered that Walter is missing two adult teeth behind two of his molars. At this point, we now have to keep an extra eye on those teeth to keep them as healthy as possible. The dentist also told us that Walter is just more susceptible to cavities and decay than other kids. So we really have to step up both the routine care and the daily tooth care.
I'm curious, have any of you ever dealt with this with yourself or your children? It just seems so strange. And now, I would like my others kids checked out too for missing adult teeth.
Not adult teeth as none of my kids have any of them yet, but Paul is missing a baby tooth. He only has three bottom middle teeth and there aren't any others there.
ReplyDeleteno teeth missing, but yes to cavities and tooth infections. parker is also prone to cavities and has had a root canal due to a tooth absess. i brush his teeth in the evenings (he does mornings) to make sure they get a good brush, and he also uses a flouride rinse. limiting sweets and juice is also important . . . good luck! xox laurel
